This position is a collaborative partnership between Culpeper Baptist Church and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) in Culpeper, Virginia, united by a shared vision to more effectively reach and disciple local students. Culpeper Baptist is a historic, community-centered church that prioritizes outreach and multi-generational ministry, while FCA is a regional faith-based organization committed to engaging coaches and athletes through sports and spiritual development. Both organizations have identified a gap in youth engagement, particularly among public school students, and are working together to launch this new, full-time role that bridges church-based ministry and para-church outreach. This innovative partnership reflects a deep commitment to meeting the evolving spiritual and relational needs of students across Culpeper County.
About the Ministry
This staff leader will oversee a collaborative, growing ministry that connects Culpeper Baptist Church and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) to students in grades 6–12 across Culpeper County. The current youth ministry at Culpeper Baptist includes around 45 students, with an average weekly participation of 20, supported by a part-time intern and two volunteers. The ministry is primed for growth and innovation, with strong community partnerships, access to local schools, and a strategic downtown location near student gathering spaces. Culpeper County has two high schools and two middle schools, serving a total of 5,500 students—representing a tremendous opportunity for outreach. Fun fact: half of Culpeper County’s school principals attend Culpeper Baptist, creating unique access for school-based engagement.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a spiritually mature, high-energy leader with a passion for both youth discipleship and sports ministry, capable of building authentic relationships with students, coaches, and church members. They are self-motivated, relationally driven, and equipped to lead with vision, navigate diverse environments, and raise support for a growing ministry that bridges the local church and public school campuses across Culpeper and Rappahannock Counties.

- Actively participate in community outreach and evangelism.
- Collaborate in creating a seamless integration of sports ministry and church youth activities.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with local schools, churches, and community organizations.
Ministry Responsibilities for Culpeper Baptist Church
- Coordinate with church leadership to align youth ministry with the overall church vision.
- Plan and lead regular Youth Group gatherings, events, retreats, and mission trips.
- Provide spiritual guidance and pastoral care to the youth.
- Recruit and train volunteers.
Ministry Responsibilities for FCA
- Engage, equip, and empower coaches & athletes in your assigned area.
- Raise financial support for the ministry and engage with donors.
- Recruit, mentor, and disciple Character Coaches and volunteers, empowering them to equip leaders for effective disciple-making.
- Work with FCA Battlefield Team to plan and execute sports camps and ministry events.
Qualifications
- Adaptable & Coachable: Flexible under pressure, open to feedback, committed to continuous growth.
- Athletics Experience: Personal involvement in sports with a strong understanding of athletic culture.
- Discipleship & Leadership: Proven ability to engage, equip, and empower volunteers, coaches, and students.
- Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree required; 2-3 years of professional work experience preferred, ensuring a solid academic foundation complemented by hands-on industry exposure.
- Fundraising Savvy: Comfortable owning a missionary‑funded budget and cultivating financial partners.
- Professional Excellence: Strong written/verbal communication, follow‑through, work ethic, and positive demeanor.
- Self‑starter & Relationship‑Builder: Confident, proactive, able to initiate contact, build rapport, and work independently or collaboratively.
- Spiritual Maturity: Growing, authentic Christian faith; models integrity and “practices what you preach.”
Bonus Skill: Spanish speaking ability—conversational or better—or a willingness to learn, to help build rapport with Spanish‑speaking athletes, families, and volunteers; cross‑cultural sensitivity valued.
