About the Church
Evergreen Presbyterian Church is a theologically moderate congregation in the PC(USA) denomination. Located in the city of Dothan, Alabama, Evergreen is well-known throughout its community as being a friendly, caring, and welcoming place, with a heart for serving others.
With community outreach ministries that literally feed God’s people, a strong music and choir program, and one of the most sought-after preschool programs in the area, Evergreen is committed to being a church that lives out grace and provides a healing balm for those whose faith has been shaken in other churches.
Having spent the past year working on internal systems and processes to be a sustainable and healthier congregation this church is a leader in the Dothan community and ready to meet their next senior pastor.
The Ideal Candidate
The new senior pastor of Evergreen Presbyterian Church will be one who can lead a PC(USA) “purple” congregation, meaning a church whose members are all over the theological spectrum. Having previous experience serving as head of staff (at least 5 years) is required, as is being a good communicator and team builder. The previous pastor served for multiple decades, and this church is looking forward to meeting an innovative leader who is flexible, self-motivated, and isn’t afraid to take risks.
Key Responsibilities
- Worship: In partnership with the worship committee and worship staff, plan and implement meaningful and creative worship.
- Staff Management: Oversee and manage the church staff, creating a culture of collaboration and community.
- Pastoral Care: Extend the love and compassion of Christ to all of EPC’s members, walking with them through both the joys and sorrows of life.
- Community Outreach: Continue to find creative solutions to meet the needs of the community.
- Strategy and Vision: Working with church leadership, discern an articulated vision and mission that will positively impact the Dothan community and nourish the discipleship of its church members.
- Paradigm Shift: EPC Is moving away from being pastor-centric and working to equip and develop more leaders.
- Church Growth: EPC has much to offer and needs to challenge itself to extend the invitation more to the Dothan community.
- Improved Communication: In a world inundated with information, EPC needs to develop strategies for more effective and efficient communication including digital media.
- Member Engagement: Engaging and equipping all members to participate in the work of EPC. This will include supporting and helping in the revitalization of committees.
- Improved Stewardship: EPC is fortunate to be debt free with a number of available designated investment funds. However, operating budgets are highly dependent on its older member's tithes and EPC will need to develop a robust stewardship program to focus on church growth and one that will empower more members to make a commitment to the church.
